Project Nightlight digs on the sports!

Recently we've been doing a lot of activities with skateboarding. We've gotten foster kids skate coaches, given out boards as prizes, given out tons of helmets (Thanks Nutcase!) and taken kids out skating.

In May we had an event with the Collaboration Project, where company leaders from the extreme sports industry spoke to our teenage skateboarders about the kind of jobs their companies had. The idea was to encourage kids to stay in school so that they could follow their passions, such as being a graphic designer or a writer for a snowboarding magazine, instead of being stuck in low paying jobs that they might not enjoy. The day ended with giving each kid a helmet and taking them skating in Venice Beach. (photos/video from the day coming soon).

We also post skate themed billboards with the child abuse hotline number. The one below features photos of kids skating at the East LA Boys and Girls Club.

In the past we've also hosted Avengers players at group homes, sponsored horseback riding lessons and held yoga classes. If you have an idea for a sporting event, please let us know. The more, the merrier!
